About Bethany
Born and raised in northern California, artist Bethany Crews learned to love nature through the time she spent biking and camping with family. Although she wanted to be a painter, she found that she had more of a knack for looking at life through the lens. Upon moving to Colorado in 2010, Bethany decided photography would be a great way to share her beautiful new Rocky Mountain surroundings with her family back on the west coast.
Along with sharing her art through photography, Bethany worked with special needs kids through equine therapy for over 15 years. She found this was a great way to help young people overcome fears, work through communication issues and learn teamwork. It was not something she planned to get involved with, but once a friend offered her a chance to combine her equine experience with the care she had for her handicapped mother, Bethany was hooked.
On a typical day off, you may also find Bethany in the kitchen where she enjoys baking. One of her passions is watching baking shows on TV, seeing what they make, and then trying to make those enticing treats at home. Although they turn out delicious, Bethany says she can never get them to look just right. Whether the cake is still too hot and causes the frosting to run, or if things are crooked, it just never comes out how the pros do it on TV.
Bethany has also been a wilderness and hunting guide! She would help set up tents, latrines, cooking areas and full camp sites out in the woods before guiding the hunting crew out on horseback. How is that for an adventure?! She is also a pro on the shooting range with a variety of rifles and handguns. A total outdoor enthusiast!
Although Bethany spends a lot of time in the outdoors, whether through photography, horseback riding, or just plain exploring beautiful Colorado, she also spends a good deal of time on her craft projects. She loves making quilts for people in special seasons of life, such as when they are having babies, getting married, or perhaps even experiencing the grief of losing a loved one.
One of Bethany’s passions is to help people find lasting joy, not just fleeting happiness, during any of life’s good and bad seasons. She loves a sermon by John Piper in which happiness is described as a worldly thing, something we experience when situations are good and when we have good things, but joy is a God thing that we can experience even in the darkest situations. All of Bethany’s art is meant to encourage, bring hope and joy to you and your loved ones through the changing seasons of life.
